He has volunteered with numerous civic and nonprofit groups over the years, including the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, the City of San Rafael Green Ribbon Committee, and the Polly Klaas Foundation. More recently, Damien Hansen volunteered his time at three different North Bay fire evacuation centers in the immediate aftermath of the North Bay fires of October 2017. To further assist with disaster recovery efforts, Damien interviewed fire victims via phone at the Petaluma People Services Center to arrange temporary housing placements with local citizens who were willing to to open their homes to displaced residents.

Professionally, Damien Hansen serves as an office manager for the University of San Francisco. Previously, he held various leadership roles for more than ten years with the US Navy, including several years as an Intelligence Analyst, Air Wing Instructor, Operations Department Head, and Administration Department Head for the Naval Strike & Air Warfare Center.
